FALL AMERICANA AUCTION - Session 1

Auction Details

<p>Cowan’s is pleased to offer more than 800 lots of fine historical and decorative Americana during our special Fall Auction, November 20-21. On November 20 th more than 400 lots of rare historical Americana will be sold, including an exceptionally rare hand-painted flag presented by the Ladies of Gordonsville, Virginia to the "Greys" on the eve of the Civil War; a rare North Carolina First National Confederate Flag; George Barnard's photographic album documenting "Sherman's March"; a campaign flag from the 1860 presidential campaign featuring a portrait of Abraham Lincoln; many fine American Indian photographs by Gardner and Rhinehart; Revolutionary swords, including one by Samuel Drowne, and another from England, both identified; five Civil War presentation swords; a Colt Pocket Model revolver presented to a Gettysburg combatant; Civil War Achives and letter groups, and many other choice lots.
<p>On November 21st the offering will include more than 400 lots of American furniture, folk and decorative arts, including the Collection of Nan Gordon formerly of Cincinnati and now of Prescott, Arizona; fine furnishing from the Edwin and Barbara Charitable Remainder Trust of Cleveland, Ohio; transportation prints from the Western Reserve Historical Society of Cleveland, Ohio and other select consignments. This sale will begin with a fine selection of autographs of many American presidents, including Jefferson, three Lincoln documents; many presidential signed appointments; a fine inscribed Mark Twain photograph; an exceptional autograph book containing Lincoln's signature, George Armstrong Custer, and numerous Civil War generals and dignitaries.
