Winter 2002 Stamp & Collectibles Auction (day 2)

Auction Details

Superior’s first sale of the new year features an outstanding collection of United States singles, including re-issues, blue papers, grills, Washington-Franklins (many of which have recent certificates), plus many better early commemorative Plate Blocks, including Columbians, Trans-Mississippis, and Pan-Americans. There are also strong sections of 20th century booklets, errors, freaks and oddities as well as postal stationery, including better full cut corners and errors. Our usual selection of collections and large lots is also worth a close look.
<p>
Worldwide material includes numerous better singles and sets with such highlights as mint and used Dolfuss, WIPA and Renner sheets from Austria, The Coolgardie Cycle Express locals from Western Australia are both here in full sheets! There is a strong section of mint PRC with many "Cultural Revolution" era issues. The German section boasts a 1901 "Vineta Provisional" bisect with several certificates and a segment from the plate used to print the 8pfg Hitler definitive of 1941 (the first time we have ever seen this offered). Switzerland features a gorgeous 1851, 5r Rayon with LARGE PART BLUE FRAME LINE AROUND CROSS. The worldwide collections section includes everything from a collection in six old Schaubek albums (nothing after 1937; estimated at $10,00-15,000), to New Issue lots, cover hoards, and single country collections.

The collectibles portion of Superior auctions is always a favorite with our customers since it has many collateral items that are not available elsewhere. Of particular note in this sale are items from Irving Berlin's music publishing company, including original musical scores, sheet music, document archives, client files and publicity photos. Vintage Hollywood Memorabilia is also featured, including an original "Gone With The Wind" Production Sketch. There are also sections of Art, Autographs, Manuscripts and Sports, plus huge offerings of Cigarette Cards, Posters and Judaica material.
