IN A LOOKING GLASS, Watercolour and sepia pen and ink heightened with gilt paint on vellum; signed and dated 1908 lower right, signed with the artist’s address: 4 Wentworth Studios, titled and numbered No.2 on original backing verso. Contained in the original black lacquer frame.

Note:
This Pre-Raphaelite artist exhibited miniatures and subjects in watercolour at the Royal Academy, London from 1906-1914 from his studios located at 56 Glebe Place and 4 Wentworth Studios, Manresa Road in Chelsea. Trained in an architect’s office in a North Provincial town, Neatby was a important leader of the Arts and Crafts movement adept at designing ceramic tiles, stained glass, metalwork, enamelling, murals and furniture. His most famous work is the tile decoration in Harrod’s, London carried out when he worked for Doulton.
