Signed and inscribed by William Wellman on the front free endpaper, “To Art – This is so long ago but I am still here – thanks for your interest. Bill Wellman, P. S. Wild Bill.” An uncommon book to find signed. William Wellman’s first book, an account of his experiences as a member of the Lafayette Flying Corps during the World War I. Wellman went on to direct such films as Wings, The Ox-Bow Incident, Battleground, High and the Mighty, and The Lafayette Escardille. He won a Best Director Oscar for the film A Star Is Born (1937).
