Original rare 1950s battery operated Robby the Robot made by T.N. Showa Nomura in Japan. This robot was inspired by the classic Sci-Fi film, Forbidden Planet (MGM, 1956). However, Showa Nomura decided to not obtain the requisite license to legally produce the robot. Hence, when the product was released it did not carry the name "Robby," but rather a generic "Mechanized Robot" nomenclature. Even so, it proved to be an extremely accurate reproduction of the film version of Robby. Standing approximately 12" tall, this robot is made of tin metal with a plastic dome. Some minor paint loss and evident signs of acid leakage in the battery compartment, which can be cleaned with a proper solution. Wear and tear notwithstanding, this robot is a fine example of toy making and, since its introduction in the 1950s, had a profound influence on toy robot design. Note: The components have not been tested to determine if the mechanics are in working condition.
