The Dying Gladiator , a Santini composite sculpture
"The Dying Gladiator", a Santini composite sculpture signed by the artist Fuzicsi working for Santini. This is a lovely A. Santini Sculpture of a Italian wounded warrior laying and waiting for death. This beautiful sculpture appears to be of marble resin. The base is incised with A. Santini Italy and has the original decal that reads Classic Figurine Sculpture A. Santini Made in Italy. The Dying Gaul—also called The Dying Galatian or The Dying Gladiator—is an ancient Roman marble copy of a lost Hellenistic sculpture thought to have been executed in bronze. The original may have been commissioned some time between 230 and 220 BC by Attalus I of Pergamon to celebrate his victory over the Galatians, the Celtic or Gaulish people of parts of Anatolia (modern Turkey). (Size: See second photo for measurement.) Photos are part of the description representing the condition report. Pangaea Auctions urges Bidder's to view all attached photos.
