Full mounted silver overlaid Texas spurs with Let ‘er buck cowboys on the stylized heelband surrounded by floral scroll work with engraved copper stamens. The off-side has a 2" engraved oval with a cut-out 5 pt star inset in contrasting copper. Terry’s shanks feature a round center with a very creative, cut-out star framed in silver. Rowels are etched, 2 1/2", 6 pt construction. Engraved swinging buttons, and Bob Marrs, Amarillo, Texas, floral carved, two-piece leathers with chrome buckles. Born in 1968 in Amarillo, Terry was raised around his parent’s antique shop in Claude, Texas with a father who always appreciated the craftsmanship of quality hand-made spurs. Terry grew to appreciate the best of the Texas makers and in 1985 decided to try his hand at the spur making art form. By 1989 he was taking orders for his own spurs on a part time basis refining his technique with guidance from Amarillo’s own Jerry Cates, who helped mentor the aspiring maker. In 1995 Terry attended an engraving clinic put on by Jeremiah Watt in Tahoca, Texas with Cates, Earlon Shirley, Billy Klapper and Jerry Galloway. In 2002 the group organized as the Texas-style Bit & Spur Makers Assoc with Terry as their first President. Alward’s spurs are powerful statements of the Texas style tradition, embellished with bold overlay and fine engraving. The shanks of an Alward spur often expand the tradition with stylized cutouts, while frequently experimenting with new and unusual patterns. Terry is married and has one daughter. He is the current President of the Texas Spur Makers Assoc, and still enjoys hunting for western artifacts while building, buying, selling, and trading spurs.
