<p>Peter Rogers was an expert in railwayana, his boundless enthusiasm made him a very respected collector. His passionate interest and attention to detail made him one of the most knowledgeable on the British railway system. He was always willing to share his expertise, and to help and encourage collectors.
Peter’s foremost interest, as many will know, was handlamps, his collection of these being quite exceptional, unrivalled and now of national importance. The collection also covers the complete spectrum of Railwayana categories as will be evident from this catalogue. The excellence of quality and rarity of so many of the items demonstrates his constant desire to acquire the scarce and unusual.
Examples of relics were collected by Peter from many of the very small, lesser known and sought after railway companies, and one of these very dear to him was the Manchester, Sheffield and Lincolnshire Railway. His drive and enthusiasm was exemplified by the pleasure and delight he derived from discovering and saving even the smallest item be it a pen nib or a postcard.
