Mike Richardson Lone Star Spurs
Full mounted, silver and brass overlaid Texas spurs, maker-marked RICHARDSON 580 at the base of each 1 1/4" wide heelband. Mike has integrated the Lone Star theme in golden brass on both sides, inset on the swinging buttons and cut-out inside the 2 1/2", 15 pt steel rowels affixed to 2 1/2" shanks. Two-piece, dark brown, floral carved leathers made by Richard Oliver Saddle Shop, Amarillo, TX. Born in 1970 in Lubbock, Texas, Mike started making bits and spurs as a hobby in 1996 while continuing his day job at the local high school where he taught Ag Science and Metal Shop. Mike studied various makers' videos adopting the time-tested trial and error technique. Richardson also gathered pointers and improved his skills with help from local spurmaker Roy Bowling, while incorporating suggestions from other experienced regional makers. It did not take long for the collector community to gain sight of Mike's accomplishments and as his reputation spread, his waiting list grew longer. Mike is honored to have been asked to build the hardware and spurs for famed Pitchfork Ranch cowboy, David Ross - the cowboy's cowboy. Mike and his wife, Shanna, are the proud parents of two children and he is especially grateful for his wonderful loving family, his loyal customers, and being able to do what he loves -- building 1st class cowboy gear!
