What happens when a master silversmith gets together with a master braider? You get Luis B Ortega’s personal Bolo tie with 3-color gold oval slide by master Pecetti (1923-2004). Exquisite raised scrollwork in pink, green and yellow gold in 14 & 18K on sterling silver. Oval is approx 2 1/4” with 4 rubies. Silver and gold tips replicate the bolo design with rubies. The tie itself is braided dark brown leather with 5 natural knots two of which are interwoven with red accents. The back has engraved LBO and O-P plus the initials AP for Al Pecetti Al Pecetti, renowned silversmith and engraver, died April 30, 2004, in Reno, Nevada. Pecetti was a third generation Nevadan and a prominent member of Reno’s community of fine craftsman. His 60-year career began in the sliver shops of Jack Starr and Hoot Newman, before establishing his own custom shop in the late 1940s. Filigree work in yellow, green and rose gold became Pecetti’s trademark style. His buckles also featured highly detailed figures, struck from his own handmade dies. Pecetti encouraged and influenced generations of craftsmen including Mark Drain, Scott Hardy, Carl Norris and the late Dan Murray. He also collaborated on projects with Al Tiejen, Bill Maloy, Luis Ortega and Les Garcia. Calgary’s Cowboy Festival honored Al Pecetti in 1996 as one of the Legends of Western Craft and in 1998 he became a founding member of the Traditional Cowboy Artists Association.
