Harold K Dalton (1925-200?) Harold Keeney Doulton was born in Oxnard, CA in 1925. After four days in the hospital he joined his family in Red Cottage, constructed in 1885 in Santa Barbara and one of the first buildings on the historic 20 acre ocean front Miramar (meaning behold the sea) property purchased by his father in 1876. Originally called Ocean View Farm, a guest suggested that the name of the destination be changed to Miramar. Mrs. Doulton was taken with the name and ordered signs the following day. Over the years, the hotel was expanded and by 1910 there were 29 structures on the property. Harold's childhood was spent at the famous Montecito hotel playing on the beach while yachts and boats moored off the pier in the channel. Harold served in the navy during WWII - the South Pacific, San Diego and San Francisco. However, he was always a bit of a cowboy at heart working for Santa Barbara Fiesta Days, at the San Francisco Cow Palace, local rodeos, stock shows and making an indelible impression for over 30 years with his amigos in the renowned Santa Barbara men’s riding group, the Rancheros Visitadores.
