Gary Wiggins Lone Star Spurs
Maker-marked WIGGINS 339-09 double mounted steel spurs with sterling silver overlay, featuring raised Lone Star and intricate scroll patterns. Off-side engraved in iron with mirrored design. 2 1/4", 28 pt chased rowels with Texas Star rowel pin covers, swinging buttons of engraved steel and silver. Floral carved Doug Cox two-tone leathers with Wiggins marked floral engraved steel buckles. Born in 1961, Gary learned silversmithing from his dad, Denzil, who made Indian jewelry. While working for a rancher around Castle Rock, Colorado, in the mid 1990s, Gary started building bits and spurs using the Indian jewelry skills that his father taught him - yet integrating his own distinctive cowboy style by applying silver and engraving. While attending classes put on by the Traditional Cowboy Arts Association (TCA) in Oklahoma, he had a great opportunity to study with several of the renowned contemporary spur makers. Also, sharing ideas and techniques with good friends Russell Yates (TCA) and Kevin Peebler, Gary split his time making both good cowboy using gear, and more stylized pieces, integrating both Texas style with California style. Gary has also had the pleasure and honor to build several pieces for Adolph Bayers expert, J. Martin Basinger. Gary and his wife and partner, Cynthia, work as a team, with her keeping the books, cutting silver, and polishing, while he is busy expanding his engraving talents. Gary is a student of the trade and his pieces are highly sought after by cowboys and collectors all over the United States.
