Introduction by William Wellman. Rand McNally & Company, (1931). Quarto (8 ¾ X 6 ¼ in., 223 X 158 mm). 255 pages. Blue cloth, spine and front board lettered in orange. Very Good. Spine ends and corners rubbed. Binding slightly shaken; else sound. Priced dust jacket is Fair. Chipped and worn, paper tape reinforcement of the edges and folds on the verso, touched-up in ink on the recto to make presentable. Inscribed and signed on the verso of the front free endpaper by Richard Arlen, “To Art, With Sincere best wishes and in appreciation, Dick Arlen.” Signed by Dick Grace on a 4 ¾ X 2 ½ in. card affixed to the half-title page, “Best Wishes, Dick Grace,” and signed by William Wellman on the portrait frontispiece, “For Art, William A. Wellman.” A thrilling account of how the death-defying aviation stunts and plane crashes were executed on the screen. Dick Grace’s book The Lost Squadron was adapted for the screen, and he also directed the flyers as well as performed his own stunts. A wonderful assemblage of signatures.
