G S Garcia / Adolph Bianchi
Extremely rare G S GARCIA / A B / ELKO, NEV maker-marked, silver inlaid, catalog pat No 3, Calif style half-breed bit with the initials A B stamped on the underside of the slobber bar for Adolph Bianchi who worked for Garcia in Elko in the late teens. The bit features 3 cutout hearts plus 2 cutout leaves on the silver inlaid cheeks, surrounded by silver spots. Plus a 2 1/4" scalloped, engraved and domed floral concho. According to Bit & Spur Makers in the Vaquero Tradition the only other example of a G S Garcia bit bearing the initials A B is pictured in Dave Van Meter's 1984 Garcia Book on page 130 (Photo 49). Both bits feature identical engraving plus the same four-petal flower motif on the conchos. Fine, 100% original condition, c 1918. PROVENANCE: By descent through the family of a California rancher who ran mules for the Army and acquired the bit in the 1920s.
