National Travel Club, New York, 1934. First American Edition. Quarto (9 5/8 X 6 ½ in., 245 X 163 mm). 264 pages. Black cloth lettered in gilt. Good. Binding exhibits smudging and handling. Priced dust jacket exhibits wear, sun darkened spine panel, and paper tape reinforcement of the folds on the verso. Signed on the half-title page by P. T. Etherton, honorary organizer and secretary, Mrs. P. F. M. Fellowes, official hostess, leader and reserve pilot, Marquess of Douglas and Clydesdale, chief pilot, and L. V. Stewart Blacker, chief observer and aerial still photographer. Also includes a handwritten note from Mrs. Fellowes, handwritten note from Mr. Blacker, and typed note signed by Clydesdale’s personal secretary. A gripping account of the first airplane flights over Mount Everest on April 3 and 19, 1933. The flights were made in a Westland PV-3 biplane, flying in formation higher than any before and helped demonstrate the need for pressurized cabins in modern aircraft. Well illustrated throughout with excellent photographs. An uncommon book with an incredible assemblage of signatures from this historic achievement. Together with The Pilot’s Book of Everest. Doubleday, Doran, and Company, Inc., 1936. First Edition. Good, with fading of spine. Priced dust jacket shows edge wear and paper tape reinforcement on the verso.
