Extremely rare early McChesney Spurs
Only one of two known pairs to exist in Chihuahua style, this large pair of McChesney spurs probably date from the early Gainesville (1900s) period and are mounted with a heavy straight heelband, engraved quarter moons around a peanut, swinging buttons and 2 1/2", 8 pt rowels. All original mountings, re-roweled, early floral straps. PROVENANCE: Originally owned by Howard Herman Smith who was born in Hamilton, KS in 1902. Howard died in 1972 and his son, Dale Smith inherited these spurs. They were acquired by the consignor in 2006 from Dale’s son, Clint Smith and had been in his family for over 80 years. A complete history of the Smith Family is included with the lot
