Stunning, exquisitely and intricately floral carved Visalia Stock Saddle Company, San Francisco, special order, silver-mounted black parade saddle with engraved sterling scalloped gullet, swell caps, full silver cantle, horn cap and RV (Rancheros Visitadores) themed corner plates. Outstanding condition, c 1937 PROVENANCE: By descent through the family of Thomas M Storke (1876-1971) A Santa Barbara legend, Thomas More Storke (1876-1971) was a U. S. journalist and publisher who was awarded the Pulitzer prize in journalism in 1962. Born in Santa Barbara to eminent local citizen and politician Charles A. Storke, Thomas graduated from Stanford in 1898. Storke was an avid horseman and an early member of the elite Santa Barbara men’s riding group, the Rancheros Visitadores. As a newspaper man, he was befriended by fellow publisher William Randolph Hearst as well as other notables of that period including Leo Carrillo, Edward Borein, Earl Warren, and Will Rogers
