General Information:

This is a popular series for all serious collectors.

The ten dollar gold certificate was only issued for three years, 1907, 1922 and 1928.

In 1929 all US Currency was changed to its current modern size. Series 1928 $10 Gold Certificates were the first small size $10 Gold Certificates issued. The obverse features a cropped version of Alexander Hamilton's portrait.

Hamilton was the first U.S. Secretary of Treasury and one of two non-presidents still featured on U.S. Currency today (Benjamin Franklin is the other).  The reverse of the bill features the US Treasury with a car parked out front resembling a Model-T.

The series 1928 bill is unique because it shows the statement "IN GOLD COIN PAYABLE  TO THE BEARER ON DEMAND".  This series was the last time a redeemable in gold clause was featured on currency due to the U.S. withdrawing from the gold standard.  On the 1934 Gold Certificate series (issued only to banks) "IN GOLD COIN" was replaced with "AS AUTHORIZED BY LAW".
