Lot of 2. Both are I/U, 5% , $10 ea., coupons attached, no vignettes, no printer ID. Cond is VF-EF. #004571 is a 15 year bond issued Mar. 1, 1939. #3103346 is 25 year bond issued May 1, 1940. These were issued to raise capital to support the efforts of the Chinese war with Japan from 1937-45, although the initial the conflict dates back to 1931 Japans invasion of Manchuria, although the dates are contested by the Chinese as they do not considered themselves to have been at war continuously with Japan. The beginning of this war is tied in with the Marco Polo Bridge Incident July 7 1937 when a dispute between Japanese and Chinese troops in Peking escalated into a full scale invasion.
