Cast Iron Mechanical Coin Bank, The Butting Buffalo. A Book of Knowledge reproduction from the 1940s based on a design originally manufactured in the 1880s by the Kyser and Rex Co. of Philadelphia, PA. This bank depicts a raccoon looking down from a tree stump at a an African American boy who is climbing the stump. A buffalo behind the boy stands ready to butt him. To operate the bank, a coin is placed in the slot atop the stump and a lever pulled, which causes the buffalo to butt the boy, who moves up the stump as the raccoon retreats into its hole and the coin drops.
