C P Shipley Colt Bisley Pistol Spurs
Only known pair of very early C P Shipley double-mounted pistol-shank Kansas City, Missouri spurs with overlaid card suit mountings and swinging heart buttons on the one side, longhorns on the other, with 1 1/2", 24 pt sawtooth rowels. A similar pistol-shank style appears as pattern No. X1 in the 1912 C P Shipley Catalog priced at a whopping $15 or nearly 2x-3x the cost of other period patterns. One round mounting is missing from the off-side band of the right spur, otherwise everything is original and in overall fine condition. Includes two-tone brown floral carved two-piece leathers with domed and branded 1 7/8" silver conchos. PROVENANCE: Acquired directly from Elizabeth Drake Moore in 2006. They were gifted to her father, James Drake, from an old cowboy. According to Ms. Drake "I don’t know "old cowboy" by any other name. He and my father were old friends and he always worked someone else’s ranch. When he got sick my dad made sure that he had medicines and plenty of food. I guess the only things he owned were his horse, saddle and these spurs. He gave the spurs to my dad when he knew that he would never need them again." Provenance + photo included
