Buy 1 oz Buffalo Silver Round (.999 Pure)
The Silver Buffalo round pays homage to the design of a Native American chief created by sculptor James Earle Fraser in 1913. Fraser used three different American Indians as models for the portrait, creating a composite image that incorporated elements from each of the men.
To clarify, these Buffalo silver rounds don't use the original Fraser design. There are laws against doing so as prescribed by the Hobby Act, which forbids the reproduction of U.S. coin designs on any other coin-like objects so as to avoid confusion over whether or not the privately-minted replica is actual currency. For that reason, the images on these rounds are not exactly like the real Buffalo nickel design that appeared on five-cent coins from 1913 to 1938.
The same law requires that such designs that resemble the images on U.S. coins from the present or past must be stamped with the word "COPY" somewhere on the piece. This provides an added layer of assurance that no consumer will mistake the item for a real coin. For the same reason, Buffalo silver rounds do not bear a date (or year) of issues as legal tender coins do.
