van Belkum, Louis. PENNSYLVANIA - NATIONAL BANK NOTE CENSUS. Louis van Belkum. ca. 2000s. 4to. Non paginated pages. Chicago. original red cloth, gilt. Fine. This book is a compilation of data Louis van Belkum compiled from the National Currency and Bond Ledgers in the National Archives showing the issuances for each national bank in the country plus ancillary data pertaining to the given banks. Van Belkum sold these data to collectors. In time, Lyn Knight began to accumulate the data for the country by trading it from the state collectors who had purchased it. He eventually got virtually all of it, which Van Belkum and his wife had hand typed on 5 x 7 cards. Knight organized those cards and photocopied many sets. He had several sets bound, which he then marketed to collectors. In due course, but separately, Hickman & Oakes, Don Kelly, and Steinmetz complied all those data into a single manageable volume for the country, which they marketed. This item, the Pennsylvania volume, is an artifact from Lyn Knight's original bound volumes. Lot weight: 5 lbs 3oz. Subject(s): United States Paper Money - Pennsylvania.
