This figural antique pin cushion is one of the rarest and most unusual pieces I have ever seen. He is Pan the Centaur ( half man half horse) with two bows and arrows and he is ALL sterling ( measures 4" x 4" tall) . We took him to a jeweler when we got him and he not only tested him but told us he was complete hand wrought and a real example of a silversmiths silver work. He is mounted on marble? and weighs quite a bit. When we got him he has pieces of material on him ( the red you see) and I was told by the people we got him from that he was a pin cushion at one time. This is such a WONDERFUL sterling piece of art that even if he was not restored with another pin cushion, he is a treasure. Notice his hair with the waves and lines in it and the hollowed out eyes. The arrows are delightful and very delicate looking. We have never had him polished, just tested. IF you are a pin cushion collector, you know that even though this does not have the cushion , he is a real rarity. ( and who cares if it means he is going to be the one of kind piece you can show off to other collectors) This is that piece you take to a show and people rival for more knowledge about him. And it is the piece that attracts people to you who desire high end collectibles. And if you collect Victorian pieces ( or possible before) then you know this, as a piece of art is something to behold. I am sure he was made for someone and not mass produced and I know he must have been well taken care of ( less the deterioration ...
