matlacha mooring, david belling
Straightforward and welcoming; bold and realistic...David Belling's watercolor style captures the spirit of the timeless beauty he finds in nature and living history. The Fort Myers News Press says, "He is one with his subjects...arguably the region's best known landscape painter." It's been said that his structures lean from the paper yearning to tell their tales. "When I see something that retains a link with the past, I'm drawn to it. My aim is to open the viewer's eye to history that is still in use in some fashion, and stir memories," says Belling. When weather permits, Belling can be found on location surrounded by nature's beauty - often finishing a painting in one sitting. Other times he draws inspiration from the view from his Cape Coral studio which overlooks the Caloosahatchee river. Although he is a year round Florida resident, Belling has found subject matter everywhere he travels, with Alaska and Door County, Wisconsin his favorite summer destinations. Belling's work may be found at Crossed Palms in Bokeelia, Portfolio in the Bell Tower Shops, Sanibel Art and Frame, Pirates Ketch, Punta Gorda and ACT Gallery in Fort Myers.
Matlacha Mooring is an original watercolor of working shrimpers beginning their day.
