An excellent and scarce later 19th Century South African double barrelled percussion 12 bore sporting shotgun. The barrel engraved with maker's mark "J. F. King. Gunmaker, Durban" Walnut stock with chequered grip.
With an interesting provenance showing that the gun was originally purchased by Daniel Nielsen of Norway who emigrated to Natal in 1860 where he worked for the Norwegian Missionary Society. The gun was kept in the same house until 1977 when the home was destroyed by fire. The gun being one of the few items to survive, doing so in remarkable condition. With accompanying paperwork including a Mercury Reporter newspaper article relating to the arson incident and mentioning the gun.
Provenance: Mr. Daniel Nielsen of Natal; thence by descent. Note: Purchaser must produce a valid license for this gun
