(ca. 1860) Idler Token MS64 NGC. M-Pa211, Baker-544A, R.7. The date is listed on the NGC insert, but Rulau (1999) is uncertain exactly when examples of M-Pa211 were produced. The token is mounted in the NGC holder opposite to the way this variety is pictured in Rulau's book Standard Catalog of United States Tokens: 1700-1900. We will use Rulau's orientation in this description. The obverse is Idler's copy of the 1792 George Washington Half Dollar. The reverse is an advertisement for Idler which reads: WILLIAM IDLER / DEALER IN COINS, MINERALS, STATIONERY & FANCY ARTICLES. NO. 111 NORTH 9TH ST. PHILADELPHIA. Struck in copper. Both sides are richly toned in reddish-brown shades that deepen a little around the reverse lettering. There are no noteworthy distractions. An exceptionally well preserved representative of this elusive type.Ex: Scott Collection (Bowers and Ruddy, 6/1975), lot 584.
