Included here are two plates, one dinner size and the other a salad or dessert plate, from the Folies Bergere caberet theater in New York, circa 1920. Plates measure 9 3/8" and 8 1/2" in diameter. Underside of each carries the mark of Lamberton China which reads " made especially for FOLIES BERGERE L BARTH & Sons". Condition of each is excellent. Only visible flaw is a chip from the underside of the rim on one plate. The Folies Bergere was an important dinner theater in Manhattan featuring burlesque entertainment and many leading stars of the day. The Folies Bergere theater in Paris began in the 1890s and still operates today. It was there that Josephine Baker became an overnight sensation in 1926 with her suggestive "banana dance" in which she wore a skirt made of bananas. Please visit our other listings to see our Folies Bergere original program from 1926 which features Josephine Baker.
