c1910 - Soda Fountain Bar Interior Photograph :
Beautiful interior shot of a soda fountain bar decorated with flowers. White marble pillars adorn the back bar and black marble adorns the front. Rare shot. Soda fountains began appearing in drug stores at the turn of the century and didn't start to completely disappear until the 1970s. Carbon dioxide tanks were manufactured by a pharmacist named Jacob Baur, who started the Liquid Carbonic Co. in 1888, which led to the soda fountain boom. By the early 1920s nearly every drug store had a soda fountain, which some say filled the social void during prohibition as a place for people to meet and "hang out." Soda Fountain bartenders were termed "Soda Jerks," an amusing nick name that stuck. Measures 7 1/2" X 9 1/2", mounted on dark cardstock. Some slight stains indicate this photograph might have been exposed to moisture. Right edge has a worn spot, otherwise good condition and nice contrast. Image is somewhat dark.
