A beautiful evenly colored jar with “Mason” embossed on one side and beneath that a stylized WS (or SW) monogram encompassed by a large “G.” Slightly larger than a pint-size, there is a definite circular pontil mark on the base with a “tail” that looks like a spill-over extending up and into the jar’s side. Another “drip” of glass extends down from the shoulder to the M in Mason. The jar has the typical screw top with pronounced shoulder where the jar would be sealed. 5” tall. The Mason jar screw on zinc cap was patented by John Landis Mason (1832-1902), a tinsmith and Philadelphia native, on November 30, 1858 and widely used from that point forward.
