c. 1790 Federal Period, Extremely Rare Historical Liverpool Creamware Pitcher / Jug, Washington, “The President of the United States of America” with a Masonic “Veritas Est Intus” Black Transfers, Choice Near Mint.
This superb, Arman recorded as “Unique,” Historical Liverpool Creamware Pitcher measures 9” tall x 5” diameter at the base. Its primary transfer shows a large impressive Portrait of General George Washington encircled by a grapevine, captioned below: "The President of the United States of America". This example Listed as “W.14” on page 197 of Arman’s magnificent 1998 published reference book titled, “Anglo-American Ceramics Part I” where it states this pitcher is “Previously Unrecorded” (image of the pitcher not shown, transfer type displayed on a tankard), plus “Pitcher - (one recorded), valued there at $10,000+ (1998). The large Unique George Washington transfer is sharp, vivid deep black, crisp and clean. Some museum-grade invisible restoration to the spout. The opposite side has a Masonic transfer captioned, "Veritas Est Intus", which translates to: “The Truth is Inside”. Also, Unlisted in Arman, it shows a collage of Masonic items, symbols and tools including a Compass and Square, Rooster, Sun, Beehive, Trowel and Hammer. One of the rarest of all George Washington transfers considering its Unique status, especially desirable as it was clearly produced and issued during Washington's Presidential term while in office which started in 1789.
