“Hard-A-Port Cut Plug” Playing Cards Complete Deck
c. 1890, Complete Deck of 53 “Hard-A-Port Cut Plug” Tobacco Premium Insert Playing Cards, 4 Standard Suits plus Joker, Extremely Fine.
c. 1890, Fantastic, colorful and very rare Complete Set of “Hard-a-Port Cut Plug” Tobacco Insert Playing Cards in outstanding original lightly used condition. This outstanding deck of 53 playing cards are identified as N458 Tobacco insert cards and came in packages of Hard-a-Port Cut Plug Tobacco manufactured by Moore & Calvi Tobacco Company. These Playing Cards are square corner and this is an assembled Deck, not one of the round corner decks available from the manufacturer. The Cards are printed on a heavier stock than the typical Playing Cards of the period. These cards each measure about 2.25" x 3 7/8" and depict beautiful, scantily clad Actresses, with a different girl on every card.

The lovely design and printing seen on this Hard-a-Port Deck is believed to have been crafted by Lindner, Eddy & Clauss in New York. Complete Decks of these reference number N458 Tobacco Card Playing Cards are very rare. A similar Hard-a-Port Deck sold at auction in excess of $2,200 in June of 2007. These N458 Tobacco Premium Insert Cards are almost impossible to find more than a few at a time, here and there. The example offered here is in excellent lightly used condition overall, with 49 of the 53 Cards are in great condition, being exceptionally well preserved, clean and crisp with sharp corners. The color on all 53 cards are bright and vibrant both the front and back on 49 of the 53 cards. Four of the Cards, specifically the 3 and 9 of diamonds, the 9 of spades, and the 7 of hearts have somewhat more rounded corners with minor soiling, otherwise this Complete Deck is the most original and well preserved we have come across in over 37 years.
