38-Star American Flag Colorado Statehood Eight by Fifteen Feet Hand-Sewn Stars “7-6-6-6-6-7” Display Pattern 1876
c. 1876 American Centennial and Colorado Statehood Period, 38-Star American Flag, United States “Fortress” or “Battleship” Size, Eight by Fifteen Feet with Double-Sided Hand-Cut and Hand-Sewn Stars in a “7-6-6-6-6-7” Pattern, Choice Very Fine.
This authentic huge size, 38-Star American Flag, measures 8’ x 15’ having printed text from the manufacturer on the heavy extended hoist which simply reads “8 x 15”, no date or maker. The Stars are Double-Sided, each being Hand-Cut and Hand-Sewn on this huge flag. The large Hand-sewn Stars each measure about 6” x 6” being placed in a “7-6-6-6-6-7” Pattern within the rich blue canton. This American Flag may have flown over a Fortress or a U.S. Battleship. It has some light tone and wear, remains quite rich in color and bold, with the top and bottom sewn red cotton linen stripes having short tears on the fly end, as would be expected from a used flag from about 1876. Historically, the 38-Star Flag was used from 1876 when Colorado first became the 38th State to enter the Union. Colorado, also known as the “Centennial State,” was admitted as the 38th State on August 1, 1876. This important American flag became “official” on July 4, 1877 and used until 1889, when both North and South Dakota became States. Attractive for display.
