Rare “George Washington” Cast Grip Centennial Era Rapier
c. 1876-89, General George Washington Cast Bronze Grip Centennial 39" Steel Blade Rapier, Choice Very Fine.
This extremely rare 39" steel blade Rapier likely would have been manufactured at the time of the 1876 Centennial or perhaps for the 1889 Centennial of Washington's Inauguration as the first President of the United States in 1789. It’s use appears to be for both decorative and ceremonial purposes. The remarkable grip displays George Washington Standing, in a cast of is made of gilt brass. The standing figure of General Washington is shown with him \wearing his military uniform, reaching out and clutching a Flag which blends and tampers to make the knuckle bow. There are no markings seen upon the blade which remains quite smooth and clean with an even natural patina. The first example of this George Washington Cast Bronze Grip design sword we have offered and a great item for any better Washington theme collection.
