c. 1865 Lincoln Assassination Era, Rare Paperback Booklet Titled: “Trial of the Assassins and Conspirators for the Murder of Abraham Lincoln. (Sixteenth President of the United States.),” Monaghan M-787, Fine.
This very scarce Paperback is cataloged as M-787 by Jay Monaghan, titled: "Trial of the Assassins and Conspirators For the Murder of Abraham Lincoln. (Sixteenth President of the United States.)", Philadelphia, Barclay & Company, 102 pages, in peach pictorial outer cover wraps (detached cover) showing a large image of Mary Surratt on its front cover. It is lacking the back wrap, has some chipping and has some dog-eared pages from being read many times, and expected light foxing. Overall, an important historical period text that is otherwise complete with its illustrations from the trial. A great example that is rarely encountered, missing in most Lincoln and/or his Assassination related collections of this very scarce work.
Mary Surratt (1823-1865) was convicted of taking part in the conspiracy to assassinate President Abraham Lincoln. Sentenced to death, she was the first woman executed in the United States and was hanged. She was the mother of John Surratt, also alleged to have been involved in the conspiracy.
