John Charles Fremont (1813 - 1890), was nominated to run against Abraham Lincoln in the 1864 Presidential Campaign. Known as the “Great Pathfinder,” Fremont ultimately withdrew his candidacy as an Independent Republican in that race and threw his support to the President Abraham Lincoln then seeking his reelection. Carte measures 2.5” x 4” having excellent contrast and tonality with the black printed maker’s imprint on its reverse.
John Charles Fremont (1813 - 1890), known as the “Great Pathfinder”, Mr. Fremont was a Candidate for President, 1856, (also running on the Rump Know-Nothing ticket), and would later be nominated to run against Abraham Lincoln in 1864.

Fremont withdrew his candidacy as an Independent Republican in that race and threw his support to the President seeking reelection. A distinguished explorer, the “Great Pathfinder’s” exploits were chronicled mostly by his wife, Jessie -- the daughter of Thomas Hart Benton.
