This c. 1862 Civil War Period U.S. Military Model 1860 Cavalry Sword has a 31.5" slightly curved blade with makers mark stamped on the ricasso, "COLLINS & CO., HARTFORD, CONN. 1862", acid-etched with "US" surrounded by decorative foliage, an eagle over a shield, scrollwork, a shield, and flowers. The surface of each side of the blade has salt and pepper pitting. Unusual steel guard has a dark rust age patina with original white leather grip with twisted brass wire. Its original steel scabbard with brass collars and suspension rings. The surface of the scabbard has a deep brown rust color age patina. A very interesting and unusual sword, worthy of any Civil War military collection.
