studied with Kunisada I and took his name when Kunisada I
took the name of Toyokuni who had been HIS teacher. It
was common practice for
artists who attained a high level of success to take on the
name of their teacher, as a sign of respect. <p> There is a
small yellow spot visible on the upper half of the print.
<p>This type of print is
called a diptych, that is, printed on two
pages in a book. It was originally printed in one piece, but was divided for publication in book form.
