c. 1880s Turn of the Century, TRIO of (3) Civil War Era Themed, Metal Illustration Printing Plates with Three (3) Illustration Images, Including: The Smuggling of Slaves, Uncle Tom’s Cabin & Stephen Douglas, Very Fine or better.
This is the “Master” Printing Plate, measuring 9.25” x 6.25” overall and depicts the following three separate print illustration images. Within there are (3) separate Copper Illustration Plates set onto one larger zink metal plate, apparently used in a publication showing all three images together shown upon one single page, each with its individual text below its image.

1. "Stephen A. Douglas, the 'lil giant," (in debate stance), 5.5” x 2.75”.

2. "A poster for Uncle Tom's Cabin," (the dogs hunting down Tom), 2.75” x 2.25”. Banner above image reads; “THE FAMOUS JARRETT & PALMER LONDON COMPY SLAVINS ORIGINAL AMERICAN TROUPE / CONSOLIDATED WITH”, and text below image; “UNCLE TOM’S CABIN.”

3. "Smuggling Slaves to freedom via the Underground Railroad.” This image is quite similar to the story of Henry "Box" Brown, who had “shipped" himself to freedom, by traveling to Philadelphia in a wooden crate that was disguised as a "cargo" box, 3” x 2.75”. Left to right: William Johnson, J. Miller McKim, Henry Box Brown, William Still; last on right is unknown. Address on box: 'W. JOHNSON. Arch st. Philadelphia. This side up with Care.' Caption: 'THE RESURRECTION OF HENRY BOX BROWN AT PHILADELPHIA, Who escaped from Richmond Va. In a Box 3 feet long 2 1/2 ft deep and 2 ft wide.' Kramer, del., of L. Rosenthal, Phila.

Overall, an important historical master printing plate, bearing three (3) classic Black history related scenes and personalities, all which surrounded and helped shape the American Civil War experience.
