Civil War Era Tintype of a Civilian with His Horse & Child
c. 1860 Civil War Era, Unusual Sixth Plate Tintype of a Man proudly holding his Huge White Horse and bareback Child Rider, Choice Very Fine.
A crisp, clear Tintype image with excellent contrast of a man holding a massive horse, with a boy (likely his son) seated bareback. The boy holds a riding crop and helmet, indicating skill at dressage and apparent wealth. The man wears a fancy bowler cap and vest, and the white horse wears blinders. This image sits behind an oval opening in an ornate, gilt metal frame surround measuring the typical 2.75” x 3.25” that is standard for sixth plate tintypes. The red felt lined wood case has a nice pressed decorative pattern and is in nice condition save a repair of the hinge reconnecting the cover and the case. A nice image with real value due to the unusual interesting Americana subject matter.
