c. 1847 Mexican War Era, Decorative Patriotic Cast Iron Eagle and Snake Doorstop, Choice Very Fine.
c. 1847 Heavy Cast Iron Eagle and Snake Doorstop, measuring a large 14” tall x 7.5” wide, it is modeled as a fierce looking American Eagle with his partially outstretched wings defiantly standing on rocks, with an entwined large nasty looking snake feature at its lower breast being extended for decorative use as the top handle. The back side casting shows the diamond shaped English registration mark and has the year letter at top (I) being the designation for the year 1847. Also has “No. 15” most probably the cast number. Overall light wear, has a great looking natural patina with sharp details. A likely patriotic piece made for export to America during the War with Mexico period.
