c. 1840's Ruby Gold & Diamond Ring EXCELLENT
This is an outstanding early circa 1840’s gold ring that is set with Ruby and diamonds with an excellent carved design. Rings that date to Pre-Civil War are exceedingly rare and can be identified by the way in which the stone is set. This ring shows a split or rolled setting which pre-dates prong settings. The ring shows a gorgeous marquise elongated shape which is set off with five graduated round brilliant old cut Rubies which are bezel split set and are supported by a lattice filigree center section and accented by the wide row which is set with various round brilliant cut stones with a Diamond appearance. The setting shows an extraordinary lattice work with well crafted body and split band which has detailed hand carved accents. The ring features five round brilliant old mine cut Ruby stones showing a total weight of .68 carats which includes the center stone, which is .43 carats, two stones at .08 carats (total .16) and two stones at .04 carats (total .08). The ring also shows 22 round brilliant cut stones, set around the perimeter of the setting which are each .02 carats for at total of .44 carats (they have been confirmed to not be diamonds). The ring shows a small marking which is not legible and test as being 10K solid gold. Ring is a size _US.
