c. 1830s Copper Engraved Printing Plate “The Farmers and Mechanics Bank” Complete Sheet of Six Checks
Philadelphia, PA. The Farmers and Mechanics Bank. Engraved Copper Printing Plate. Complete Sheet of 6 Checks. Not Canceled. Choice Extremely Fine.
This c. 1830s original Copper Engraved Printing Plate measures about 10” wide x 16” tall and is in excellent overall condition. There are some trivial oxidation spots and light hairlining that does not affect the metal or even the future printing potential of this unique Full Sheet Plate. This machine and hand-engraved Copper Plate Sheet is Not Canceled, and still fully ready for printing. It was used to create Sheets of Six Checks for customers of the bank. Made sometime between 1807-1864, before the name of the bank was then changed to The Farmers and Mechanics National Bank. Made by J. Keim of Philadelphia, whose name appears in print on the reverse of the plate. A phenomenal addition to any collection of Obsolete Currency, Checks, and particularly the notes of this historic early American bank (Haxby PA-430).
