Handscored Volume of American Manuscript Music, oblong octavo, measuring about 9” x 5.75”, 94 pages, including many period contemporary, highly patriotic tunes. The book’s hardcover is worn, coming slightly disbound; minor wear to contents, one leaf torn out (possibly on purpose); signature of original owner or composer, “Edmund A. Hart” on front pastedown label. This is an outstanding compendium of more than 100 melodies, a few of them arranged for two clarinets.

Historical and Patriotic highlights include such important tunes as:

"The Star Spangled Banner" on the first page, "Washington's Grand March" (page 10), "Hail Columbia" (pages 3 and 24), "Yankee Doodle" (pages 3 and 25) and "La Fayette's Welcome to the United States" (page 43).

Popular songs include: "Auld Lang Syne" (page 22), "Home Sweet Home" (page 39) and Stephen Foster's "Old Dog Trey," here credited to Christy's Minstrels (page 50). The latter first appeared in 1853.
