c. 1815 War of 1812 Era, Leather-Covered Wooden Lock Box, Decorative Patriotic & Political Theme Interior Liner, by E. Davis, Boston, Fine.
This Wooden Lock box dates to Boston, Massachusetts, in the 2nd half of the 18th century. This leather covered and protected Pine box measures about 10.625” long x 6” wide x 4.75” tall. It has been made covered with black leather and lined with blue Printed Cloth of a Patriotic and Political nature having designs including an American Eagle and United States Presidents including Thomas Jefferson and James Monroe (President till 1815). Underside is stamped, "Warranted Soap by E. Davis, Boston." Some expected damage, primarily the leather handle is separated (included with the box), as is the original key. The top lid is separated at back (leather hinge damaged) and there is expected overall wear from actual use. An interesting historical piece that has a great printed interior theme.
