Likely Unique President George Washington Portrait Museum Quality Historic Liverpool Creamware Deep Dish
c. 1805 Federal Period, Historic Liverpool Creamware Decorative Octagonal Deep Dish, with a central Portrait Transfer Image of President George Washington, Choice Very Fine.
This exceedingly rare Octagonal Shaped Liverpool Creamware Dish measures 8” x 8” and is about 1.25” deep. It has a wonderful central black Transfer Portrait of President George Washington shown dressed in civilian clothing. There is a highly unusual and surrounding classic decorative large border design upon the inner vertical portion depicting various fruit on a branch or vine.

The George Washington portrait transfer image is similar, but is absolutely different, from the several other authentic examples shown illustrated in David Arman’s reference, “Anglo-American Ceramics.” We thank noted Historic Liverpool China expert and specialist Rex Stark who attributes this dish to the Liverpool region, circa 1805-1810. He is only aware of this single, possibly Unique example. The back side has a well worn marking that appears to have the monogram “EAC” and an additional mark indication that it was made expressly for "Cadran" believed to be of New York. It has a deft invisible professional restoration of a crack, not noticeable when viewed and remains bold and clean in its overall appearance. There is one trivial small deeper glaze spot at bottom left and some faint expected wear to the outer rim edges and bottom. This is an important opportunity to acquire a Unique (to our best knowledge) Museum Quality “George Washington” Liverpool Creamware rarity that is gorgeous for display.
