Historic Liverpool Creamware Pitcher “Washington in Glory” and “Peace, Plenty And Independence” Transfers
c. 1800 Federal Period, Historic Liverpool Creamware Pitcher, with Three Patriotic Transfers, “WASHINGTON IN GLORY - AMERICAN IN TEARS” and “PEACE PLENTY AND INDEPENDENCE,” plus Flags & Militaria, Washington Memorial Period, Choice Very Fine to Extremely Fine.
This major type was produced in memory and commemoration of the life of President George Washington. It has two main black transfers, and measures 9.25” tall x 5.25” at its base. The one transfer is listed as “W.44” on page 207 of David Arman’s great reference book, “Anglo-American Ceramics Part I”. Overall in very nice condition, having a few trivial bottom edge rim chips and light wear from actual use. It shows a central image of an Obelisk with a central Portrait of George Washington facing left, with the text “Born Feb 11, 1732 - Died Dec 14, 1799” being flanked by a bowed in mourning American Eagle, accompanied by the mourning depiction of “America” appearing as a woman.

The legends text at top reads, “Washington In Glory” and at bottom reads “America In Tears” both within banners. The second transfer is listed as 14 on page 147 of Arman. It shows text, “Peace, Plenty and Independence” flanked by Two Goddesses, one holds a Cornucopia, the other extinguishes her burning torch, with a Huge American Eagle at top perched upon an American Flag, Cannon and various other militaria. A large and pleasing example for display.
