Lovely Antislavery Token “Am I Not A Man And A Brother - May Slavery & Oppression Cease Throughout The World”
c. 1790 Anti-Slavery Token. “Am I Not A Man And A Brother.” Lettered Edge. Copper. Shackled and Chained male Negro Slave on his knees Pleading. English. Dalton & Hammer Middlesex-1037B. Choice Extremely Fine.
This historic, Black History and Slavery related British Copper token measures about 1.25” in diameter (29 mm) and has a Lettered Edge reading: “Payable In Dublin Or London.” A quality example of this major type displaying a shackled and chained male Slave on his knees pleading, with the reverse design of clasp hands of brotherly friendship. The reverse side legend reading: “May Slavery & Oppression Cease Throughout The World.” This example is very attractive, has no distractions and rich natural brown smooth hard surfaces.
