c. 1776 Revolutionary War Period, Soldier’s Camp Painted Rundlet, Rum Keg or Swigler, Painted Black, with Owner’s Handpainted Initials “T.R.”, Very Fine.

Overall, an excellent addition to any Revolutionary War era collection or military display for its solid appearance and superior eye appeal. Rundlets, as this are also called “Rum Kegs” or “Swiglers.” They were often used as canteens and drinking vessels during the Revolutionary War era. This scarcer example has its wooden staves painted black, displaying proper age being rich in patina with all four metal bands intact. It measures about 8” tall x 6.5” in diameter at its center, including the raised wooden spout, and measures 4.75” in diameter at each end. A small pencil eraser size air hole located about 1” below the spout. One end has Hand-Painted initials “T.R.” in white paint. There is overall expected light wear, includes a replacement cork stopper and a metal carrying handle attached at both sides of the central spout.
