c. 1775-1780 American Revolutionary War Period, English Short Saber, Very Fine.
This Revolutionary War Saber has a 32” unmarked straight single-edge blade with wide upper fuller and 11” false edge, 38” in overall length. The pierced Iron hilt / Guard has (8) slotted sections with a gadrooned pattern edge (a decorative edging on metal or wood, typically formed by inverted flutings) and a stylized “Crown” at the end of the counterguard area where a quillon would be located. The pierced knuckle bow inserts into the faceted olive-shaped pommel. The intact original wood grip is covered with flat and twisted silver wire (intact but loose). No scabbard is present. All metal surfaces exhibit light salt & pepper surface rust pitting and a deep patina.
